ISPA’s September 2012 Bedding Barometer reports year-to-date unit shipments and wholesale revenues increased by 8.3% and 13.7%, respectively, over 2011 levels. Average unit price (AUP) for the quarter also increased 5.0% year-to-date. For the month of September 2012, unit shipments increased by 1.9% and wholesale revenues increased by 5.6% over 2011, resulting in a September 2012 AUP that was 3.6% above last year.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 18 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for just over 66% of the mattress units shipped and 75.5% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2011. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
