ISPA Releases November 2012 Bedding Barometer

U.S. mattress sales posted gains in November, according to the Bedding Barometer, a monthly sales report published by the International Sleep Products Association. Unit sales (both mattresses and foundations) increased 10.9% in November 2012 over the same month in 2011. The wholesale dollar value of those units grew 11.3%. The average unit selling price remained nearly flat, rising 0.3% when compared with October 2011.
In terms of year-to-date activity, unit sales increased 8.8% from January through November when compared with the same period in 2011. Dollar values rose 13.5% during the same time period. The year-to-date AUSP is up 4.3% over the first 11 months of 2011.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 18 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for just over 66% of the mattress units shipped and 75.5% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2011. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
