ISPA Releases Second Quarter 2015 Bedding Barometer
The latest Bedding Barometer, a monthly report of U.S. mattress sales published by the International Sleep Products Association, shows that unit sales increased by 8.0% in June 2015 over the same month in 2014, while the wholesale dollar value of those units grew by 12.2%, compared to June 2014. The average unit selling price increased 3.9% compared to June of last year. Year-to-date unit sales and the wholesale dollar levels of those units increased by 4.9% and 7.5%, respectively, compared to 2014 levels. The year-to-date AUP also increased 2.5% over the same period of 2014.
The 2015 second quarter also shows unit shipments and wholesale revenues increased over 2nd quarter 2014 levels by 4.3% and 7.3%, respectively, while AUP increased 2.9% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2014. The June report also contains innerspring and non-innerspring mattress data for the 2nd quarter of 2015.
The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 13 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 69.5% of the mattress units shipped and 77.9% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2014. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
