The latest Bedding Barometer, a monthly report of U.S. mattress sales published by the International Sleep Products Association, shows that unit sales decreased slightly by -0.3% in August 2015 over the same month in 2014, while the wholesale dollar value of those units grew by 3.3%, compared to August 2014. The average unit selling price increased 3.6% compared to August of last year. Year-to-date unit sales and the wholesale dollar levels of those units increased by 4.1% and 6.7%, respectively, compared to 2014 levels. The year-to-date AUP also increased 2.6% over the same period of 2014.

Looking at trends over the past three months, the ISPA data show that for the period June 2015 to August 2015, units increased by 3.8%, wholesale dollars grew by 7.0%, and the average unit selling price increased by 3.1% compared to June 2014 to August 2014.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 13 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 69.5% of the mattress units shipped and 77.9% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2014. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
