On November 16, the Senate confirmed Richard Trumka Jr., a Democrat who formerly served as General Counsel and Staff Director for the House Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, to fill a current vacancy on the Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC). Trumka, whose term will run through October 2028, is expected to be sworn in shortly.

With his confirmation, the CPSC has a 2-2 Republican/Democrat split. The confirmation process for Mary Boyle, another Democrat whom President Biden has nominated to fill the fifth CPSC seat, has been stalled because of data protection and safety inspection problems that occurred during her term as CPSC Staff Director.
