The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced 2 actions targeted at companies that manipulate consumer reviews. First, the FTC fined fashion company Fashion Nova $4.2 million for blocking negative reviews.  The FTC also has released new guidelines to prohibit online retailers and review sites from tampering with reviews, making clear that such conduct could be considered an unfair or deceptive trade practice. The guidelines encourage equal treatment of negative and positive reviews and restrict companies from preventing, discouraging or intimidating people from submitting negative reviews
