The Massachusetts Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee considered, amended and approved H 988 and S 569, competing mattress recycling bills. The Committee amended both bills by adding in new language that was not previously considered and synchronizing the language so that both bills are now identical. These changes hurt industry interests and diverge from the successful mattress recycling model enacted in other states. ISPA is working with legislators and stakeholders to resolve these problems.
The bills now proceed to the Ways and Means Committee where they can be further amended. If approved in this Committee, the bills can then be sent to the House Floor.
