The 2011 Mattress Industry Report of Sales and Trends is now available electronically to ISPA members.  The Report shows mixed results for the mattress industry as a whole. The wholesale value of mattresses and foundations increased by 7.7% in 2011 over 2010, but units shipped were almost flat, increasing by just 0.2%, with the average unit price (AUP) up by 7.5%. Within the mattress category, sale revenues from innerspring products in 2011 grew by 2.6% over the prior year, while non-innerspring mattress sales were up 29.6%. In terms of units, non-innerspring mattress shipments grew by 24.3%, while innerspring units fell by 1.9% in 2011. AUP increases for both categories were nearly the same, up by 4.7% and 4.2% for innerspring and non-innerspring mattresses, respectively. The 2011 report is packed with other useful industry information on contract sales, imports and exports of mattresses, mattress size and retail price point trends. This report also contains information on mattress sales activity in 60 other countries compiled by CSIL Milano and a market analysis by Jerry Epperson (of Mann, Armistead & Epperson, Ltd.).
