The FTC has extended the deadline for comments on whether to revise its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims (“Green Guides”) until Tuesday, February 21, 2023. First issued in 1992 and most recently revised in 2012, the Green Guides are designed to help marketers avoid making misleading environmental claims. The FTC requests comments on a wide range of environmental marketing claims both currently and potentially covered by the Green Guides – including claims regarding carbon offsets and climate change, and terms like recyclable, recycled content, organic and sustainability. If you wish to comment or view existing comments, please follow this link to the Federal Registrar. If you have questions directed to ISPA regarding the FTC green guides update or the comment process, please contact Kate Caddy, ISPA’s Sustainability Manager.
