The Mattress Recycling Council submitted a plan to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality on September 27, 2023 to establish a mattress recycling program in that state. If approved, MRC anticipates the program will begin in mid-2024.  

The Oregon program will be funded by a recycling assessment collected on each mattress and foundation sold by brick-and-mortar and online retailers and other sellers. 

MRC is currently working to build a network of sites to collect discarded mattresses from consumers and businesses. The program will also provide no-cost transportation and recycling for large volumes of discarded mattresses collected from retailers, hotels, healthcare facilities, military installations and schools.
