As ISPA previously reported, ISPA testified at a hearing on March 5, 2025, to support, with amendments, MD HB 858, which would enact a statewide mattress recycling program in Maryland. With the sponsor accepting ISPA’s requested amendments, ISPA has changed its official position and now supports the legislation. HB 858 was advanced from the Maryland Environment and Transportation Committee on Friday and was sent to the Economic Matters Committee, a step before becoming eligible for a floor vote in the Maryland House of Delegates. While the official crossover deadline in Maryland was March 17, it is still possible that HB 858 will receive a floor vote. If HB 858 passes a floor vote in the Maryland House of Delegates, it will be referred to the Maryland Senate Rules Committee. Maryland’s legislative session adjourns on April 7, 2025.

ISPA will inform its members about significant developments regarding this legislation. Please contact ISPA’s GA Team (Alison KeaneGrant Johnson, and Marty Salamone) if you have any questions.
