As previously reported, New York is advancing critically flawed mattress recycling legislation in NY S 1463

ISPA supports consumer-funded mattress recycling laws that California, Connecticut and Rhode Island have had for over 10 years now. These laws have worked well and have resulted in over 15 million mattresses and box-springs being recycled so far. But New York’s approach eliminates the consumer-funded approach. Without a clear funding mechanism, this bill would establish a mattress recycling program in New York that would be funded by mattress producers. Since collecting the fee from foreign producers will be difficult, U.S. mattress manufacturers will likely bear an unfair share of the recycling costs, putting them at a competitive disadvantage. ISPA opposes this legislation because S 1463 will harm US producers and their workers.

ISPA has offered our Mattress Recycling Council program as an alternative to no avail. Read our full testimony detailing our issues and use this short letter to reach out to the New York State Senators using this list of emails between April 22 and April 29, 2025!
