Manufacturing Labor Market Weakens in May
According to the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Monday Economic Report for this week, manufacturing employment slipped by 8,000 jobs, while the April loss (of 1,000) was revised upward to an increase of 5,000 jobs. As nonfarm hiring slows, the manufacturing labor market exhibited more significant weakness in May. Job openings for manufacturing decreased by 16,000 while in the larger economy, the number of job openings rose slightly to 7.4 million, an increase of 191,000 from the previous month.
