ISPA Joins Industry Coalition Letter in Pennsylvania
On June 8, thirty organizations, including ISPA, joined a letter citing major concerns with HB 2145 in Pennsylvania as it is written. The legislation would prohibit the manufacture and sale of several categories of consumer products containing PFAS (cosmetics, dental floss, juvenile products, and menstrual products) starting January 1, 2028. Furthermore, it also includes reporting, notification, and certification requirements that would create significant compliance challenges throughout complex supply chains. The complex certification process would require manufacturers to certify that covered products do not contain intentionally added PFAS, without consideration of significant practical challenges faced during implementation.
ISPA supports policies that protect human health and the environment and recognize the importance of evaluating the use of PFAS in consumer products, but like the other co-signers, have concerns over the implementation and state-by-state patchwork regulation.
