Consumer Product Safety Commission Nominees Confirmed
The Senate confirmed two nominees to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on August 7. Karen Sessions and Brien Lorenze will fill two of the agency’s four vacant seats, restoring the minimum number of commissioners needed for the CPSC to conduct official business.
The CPSC has operated with only one commissioner since October 2025, following the removal of three Democratic-appointed commissioners and the retirement of one Republican-appointed commissioner.
The CPSC is an independent federal agency responsible for protecting consumers from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with thousands of types of consumer products. Congress established the agency, which is led by five commissioners.
Acting Chairman Peter Feldman issued a statement on the confirmations, which you can read here.
