As ISPA recently reported, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade held a July 22 hearing titled Legislative Proposals to Strengthen Consumer Protection in a Changing Marketplace. In addition to discussing two ISPA-supported pieces of packaging legislation — the Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act (H.R. 6832) and the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA) (H.R. 7502) — the Subcommittee discussed consumer product safety issues stemming from unsafe products imported to the U.S. marketplace. After the hearing, ISPA submitted this statement for the record in support of the PACK Act and RMAA, and highlighted issues with imported mattresses that fail to meet federal flammability standards.

ISPA submitted a second statement for the record to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee’s hearing on The President’s Trade Policy Agenda. ISPA’s statement focused on two important topics discussed during the hearing: tariffs and the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). ISPA urged the Committee to work with the Administration to pursue a balanced trade agenda and emphasized the importance of stable trade policy for mattress manufacturers and component suppliers.

As ISPA continues to build a federal presence, we will continue to engage legislators on these issues of importance to the mattress industry. Please contact ISPA’s GA Team (Alison Keane, Shawn Swearingen, and Marty Salamone) if you have any questions.
