The recent announcement by President Trump to impose new tariffs – 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% on imports from China effective February 1, 2025 – has significant implications for the mattress industry. These tariffs are anticipated to increase costs for manufacturers who rely on imported materials and components, potentially leading to higher prices for consumers.

In response, Canadian and Mexican leaders promised a series of retaliatory tariffs.  However, the United States agreed to pause the implementation of tariffs on Canada and Mexico for one month in return for increased military presence at both borders.

Meanwhile, China has issued its own retaliatory duties, including a 15% tax on certain types of coal and liquefied natural gas and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and pickup trucks.  These will go into effect on February 10.
