Maryland Mattress Recycling Bill Introduced
Maryland Delegate Dr. Terri Hill recently introduced MD HB 858 which would enact a statewide mattress recycling program in Maryland. Delegate Hill has introduced similar legislation in previous sessions of the Maryland General Assembly. The bill varies in several ways from existing mattress recycling laws enacted in other states. ISPA met with Delegate Hill and suggested several amendments prior to the introduction of the bill. The bill adopted some of the suggestions, but not all. Thus, ISPA generally supports the legislation but will continue to work with Delegate Hill and other stakeholders on possible further amendments.
ISPA anticipates that the bill will have a public hearing in the Maryland House Environment and Transportation and Economic Matters Committee in February. ISPA will attend the hearing in person and offer testimony. If you have any questions or want to get involved with ISPA’s efforts in Maryland, please contact ISPA’s Government Affairs Team (Alison Keane, Grant Johnson, and Marty Salamone).
