Durable Manufacturing Industry Groups Exhibit Mixed Results in January
According to the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Monday Economic Report, U.S. manufacturing production unexpectedly fell in January, weighed down by a sharp decline in motor vehicle output.
In contrast, the following durable goods categories rose in January, including output increases of 6.0% (-0.1% y/y) in aerospace & miscellaneous transportation equipment, 1.9% (3.4% y/y) in nonmetallic mineral products, 1.5% (5.3% y/y) in computer & electronic products, 1.2% (4.7% y/y) in wood products, and 1.1% (-1.4% y/y) in furniture & related products.
