ISPA Testifies in Support of Massachusetts Mattress Recycling Bill
As ISPA previously reported, the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Environment and Natural Resources convened a May 6 hearing to discuss multiple bills focused on recycling and solid waste. This included ISPA’s model mattress recycling legislation (MA H 1023), which would require the mattress industry to establish a statewide mattress recycling program in the style of existing states based on MRC’s ten years of experience. ISPA attended the hearing in person to testify in support of H 1023 and explain key differences between this well-crafted legislation and two competing mattress recycling bills that ISPA opposes (MA H 3985 //MA S 614).
ISPA has submitted written testimony to the Joint Committee. In addition, ISPA will present the Mattress Recycling Council’s program and our model mattress recycling legislation at the June 18 meeting of Extended Producer Responsibility Commission convened by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
If you would like to add your voice to the issue, there is still time to submit your own testimony on the bills. ISPA has a template letter of support for interested manufacturers to submit on their company letterhead. Please contact our GA team (Alison Keane, Grant Johnson, and Marty Salamone) with any questions.
