New York and New Jersey Emissions Disclosure Bills Moving Forward
As ISPA reported earlier this month, legislation that mirrors California’s landmark Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act was introduced in New York (NY S 9072A/NY A 4248A) and New Jersey (NJ S 679). If enacted, the bills would mandate companies with revenues that exceed $1 billion and that do business in the respective state annually report their scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 emissions.
NY S 9072A is moving fast and passed the New York State Senate by a vote of 40 – 22 on February 10th. After passing the State Senate, the bill was referred to the Assembly Codes Committee. It must clear this Committee and an Assembly floor vote before being delivered to Governor Kathy Hochul for her consideration.
In Trenton, NJ S 679 was approved by a 3-2 vote by the Senate Environment and Energy Committee and reported to the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.
