Maryland Mattress Recycling Bill Runs Out of Time
MD HB 858, which would have enacted a statewide mattress recycling program in Maryland, died after the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session adjourned Monday, April 7 . As previously reported, ISPA fully supported this legislation. After being introduced in previous years, the legislation made additional headway this year, passing the Maryland House of Delegates and receiving a hearing in the Senate Education, Energy, and Environment Committee. It was not able to make it all the way through both houses, however, before the 2025 session ended. ISPA will continue to advocate for mattress recycling legislation in Maryland to mirror MRC’s existing state programs.
Between now and the 2026 Maryland legislative session, ISPA will continue to engage with interested stakeholders and plans to identify a Senate sponsor to help push this legislation across the finish line in 2026. Please contact ISPA’s GA Team (Alison Keane, Grant Johnson, and Marty Salamone) if you have any questions about ISPA’s efforts in Maryland.
